A community coming together for stronger mental health support in agriculture.

Agriculture Wellness Ontario (AgWO) is honoured and pleased to share that The Farmers Dash Fundraiser Barrel Race, held at Charlie Hill Equine in Orton, recently raised nearly $6,000 for AgWO and its free, unlimited counselling service, the Farmer Wellness Initiative

Organized by 19-year-old Sienna Sovereign, The Farmers Dash came together in just six weeks and welcomed barrel racers from across Ontario. Support from the Participants, spectators, members of the agricultural community and several generous corporate sponsors contributed to the funds raised as well as more than $12,000 in prize money for participants.

Attendees enjoyed a full day of competition and community, complete with a food truck, ice cream bike, lemonade stand, a silent auction and more.

“We’re humbled to be thought of for this incredible community fundraiser. These funds will help us reach more Ontario farmers with mental health awareness and support. Thank you, Sienna, and everyone who supported this special event.”

— Director of AgWO, Kristin Wheatcroft

Barrel racing is a rodeo event in which a horse and rider run around barrels in a “cloverleaf” or triangular pattern, racing against the clock. The sport combines speed, precision and a strong partnership between horse and rider, attracting competitors and spectators from across Ontario’s agricultural and equestrian communities.

AgWO extends its sincere thanks to Sienna for her leadership, mental health advocacy and for having shown what’s possible when passion for agriculture and a commitment to mental health come together. Through The Farmers Dash, she has created more than a barrel race.  She has provided an opportunity for connection and supporting one another. AgWO looks forward to seeing her vision of making barrel racing a vehicle for positive change in the agricultural industry continue to grow.
