Susana Gonzalez

Susana is the senior manager of the International Agriculture Worker Wellness Program. She completed her bachelor’s degree in international relations with honours in Mexico City, followed by a master’s in government and public policy. Her work has focused on creating wellness initiatives that support diverse communities and strengthen workplace well-being. Susana is the granddaughter of farmers from Veracruz, on Mexico’s Gulf Coast. Although her mother moved to the city for greater opportunities, Susana spent every summer on her family’s farm, where her cousins taught her the rhythms of rural life—harvesting corn, making tortillas by hand, riding donkeys and drawing water from the old well. Today, supporting international agricultural workers in Canada feels less like a job and more like answering an ancestral call—one that brings her back to her roots and connects her with the people whose work sustains our food systems.

“Doing this work allows me to share knowledge that empowers people to support their own well-being and their families’, cultivate moments of happiness and build resilience while navigating social, economic and structural challenges.”
