The Farmer Wellness Initiative offers free, private mental health support for farmers, farm workers, international agricultural workers and farm families over 16 years old. You can talk to a counsellor about stress, missing home or anything else on your mind. Support is available anytime, day or night. Youth from 12-15 years old can use the service with parental consent.
Your privacy matters. Your information will not be shared with anyone without your consent. We will not share any information with your employer. Everything you share during your counselling sessions is protected under Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (2004). Your counsellor will talk with you about any times where they may have to share your information for the protection of yourself and others.
This service is free for Ontario farmers, farm workers, international agricultural workers and their family members living in Ontario. There is no limit to the number of counselling sessions you can use.
Web-based calling lets people connect to the Farmer Wellness Initiative using the internet instead of a phone number. When you click the link, a phone screen will open and connect you to the line. You do not need to download anything. You will need internet and a phone, tablet or computer.
You can have a support person with you when you call. You will choose your language and talk to a worker who will ask a few questions to help connect you to the right support. If you need help right away, you will be connected to someone.
If you need help right away, you will be connected to a counsellor right away. If not, you will answer some questions first and then book a counselling appointment, usually within one week.
Before you begin counselling, your first call will be in English, French or Spanish. If you speak another language, a translator can join the call. This may take a few minutes. You can also have a friend or co-worker help you at the start of the call.
In-language ongoing counselling is available in English, French, Spanish and Tagalog. Other languages are available and may require a translator.
Ongoing counselling appointments can happen in different ways. If you have a Canadian phone number, your counsellor can call you. If you have an email address, your counsellor can send you a video meeting link and updates about your appointments. You can also use the web-based calling link again at your appointment time.
Before your call ends, you should know how you will talk to your counsellor next time. This may be through calling back using the web-based link, joining a video session or receiving a phone call from your counsellor. Web-based calling cannot call you back.
Web-based calling cannot call you back. If your call is disconnected, click the link again to reconnect. If you miss your appointment, you can use the same link to call back and ask about your appointment.
